Marco Solari appointed honorary citizen of Locarno

Marco Solari becomes an honorary citizen of Locarno TI. The long-time director of the Locarno Film Festival handed over the reins to Maja Hoffmann at the end of 2023. The 79-year-old, who was born in Bern, lives in Lugano.
The appointment as an honorary citizen was announced by Solaris media spokesperson Sonja Zöchling on Tuesday. In addition to his 23 years as director of the Locarno Film Festival, Solari, whose father came from Ticino, was also director and president of Ticino Turismo and delegate of the Federal Council for the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation.
In 2017, Solari received the Order of the Star of Italy. The award is presented to Italian citizens and foreigners for special services to Italy's relations with other countries.
