Members of the Federal Council Point Proudly to the Federal Constitution

On the Swiss National Day, members of the Swiss government praised the 175-year-old Swiss Constitution and the qualities of the country. Federal President Alain Berset encouraged the Swiss to continue to take on challenges, while Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider urged the youth to get involved in politics. Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter highlighted the country's ability to learn from crises, while Federal Councillor Albert Rösti praised the country's decision to choose democracy in a time of monarchies. Federal Councillor Viola Amherd emphasised the importance of independence and security, while Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin celebrated the day with a speech at a farmer's brunch. Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis celebrated the day in Indonesia, praising the peaceful coexistence of different cultures, languages, religions and worldviews. On the evening before the National Day, Basel held a large fireworks display, which was attended by around 100,000 people. Unfortunately, at least 10 people were injured by fireworks in Villars-sur-Glâne on the night before the National Day, with one woman being taken to hospital with burns.nn
