Middle East Expert Warns Against Classifying Hamas as a Terrorist Organization

Riccardo Bocco, a Middle East specialist and professor at the Institute of International Studies and Development in Geneva, has criticised the Swiss government's plans to classify Hamas as a terrorist organisation. He believes that such a ban would end dialogue with the Palestinians, and that Switzerland should not take sides with Israel, as it has done in the past. He also criticised the Swiss Foreign Minister, Ignazio Cassis, for being part of an Israel-friendly group, citing his comments about the UNRWA as an example.
Bocco believes that Switzerland should remain neutral in the Middle East conflict, as it has done in the past, and that it should not take sides with Israel. He also criticised Cassis for his comments about the UNRWA, which he believes have angered the Palestinians. He believes that Norway, which has not expressed a desire to put Hamas on the terror list, is a better example of a neutral country working for peace in the region.
