In the past year, over 250,000 accidents have occurred that have resulted in more than three days of work disability. According to the Suva, most of the injured were able to resume their usual work activities after recovery. On average, the work disability after an accident was 43 days. The Suva paid out a total of 1.54 billion francs in daily allowances. The most common injuries were bruises, fractures and sprains, often in the knee, ankle, finger and shoulder. 80% of the injured were men and 20% were women, with an average age of 41. Most of the injured were employed in the construction industry, trade and storage operations and personnel leasing. 92% were able to resume their previous work after recovery. The reintegration rate remained at a constant high level. If someone is unable to work after an accident and has no income, the Suva pays a daily allowance of 80% of gross wages from the third day. On average, the Suva paid a daily allowance of 6200 francs per case. The Suva is one of the federal companies and insures around 130,000 companies with a total of two million employees. Its goal is to enable the injured to return to work as soon as possible. If the work disability lasts more than six months, the chances of resuming the professional activity are reduced by half.
