Motorcyclist dies in collision with truck in Vaud

A 51-year-old German motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a truck near Avenches VD on Monday. The 39-year-old female passenger of the fatality, also a German, was seriously injured, as reported by the Vaud cantonal police on Tuesday.
The accident occurred on Monday afternoon shortly before 1.30 p.m. on the main road near the Swiss National Stud Farm near Avenches in the canton of Vaud. According to the police, the truck driver, who was traveling with an articulated lorry, collided with the motorcyclist as he turned onto the main road from the Route des Longs-des-Près.
The motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident and the injured passenger's life was in danger. According to the police, the driver of the truck, a 33-year-old Polish citizen, suffered a severe shock.
The public prosecutor's office opened a criminal investigation to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the accident.
