Mountain hiker killed in an accident in Sils in Engadin GR

Rescue workers found a female hiker dead shortly before midnight on Saturday in the Lej da la Tscheppa area in Sils in Engadin GR. The woman had previously been reported missing by relatives.

The 57-year-old set off alone on a hike from her vacation home in Silvaplana GR on Friday morning, the Graubünden cantonal police reported on Sunday. She had intended to walk along the Lej da la Tscheppa hiking trail to Sils Maria.

According to the press release, relatives initially tried to contact the woman by telephone without success and searched for her at her home. On Saturday, they finally reported the 57-year-old missing. The police launched a search operation.

Shortly before midnight, a dog handler from SAC Bernina reportedly found the missing woman dead in steep, rocky terrain at an altitude of over 2,100 meters above sea level below the hiking trail.

It was initially unclear why the accident occurred. The police and public prosecutor's office began an investigation.
