The responsible National Council committee wants to reduce the budget for the Pro Helvetia cultural foundation by CHF 6.5 million. This was decided as part of the discussion on the Confederation's cultural message for the years 2025 to 2028.

According to the Federal Council and the Council of States, Pro Helvetia has a total of CHF 186.9 million at its disposal for the four years. The Science, Education and Culture Committee of the National Council (WBK-N) now wants to reduce this amount by CHF 6.5 million, as reported by the parliamentary services on Friday. The proposed cut concerns Pro Helvetia's activities abroad.

It also proposes that the Commission for Historically Important Cultural Heritage can be called upon unilaterally, as originally envisaged by the Federal Council, and not only with the consent of both parties, as demanded by the Council of States.

It also decided to suspend the handling of the legal deposit regulation for digital content at the Swiss National Library - among other things in order to hold hearings on the associated copyright issues.

With regard to the other drafts of the cultural message, the WBK-N is largely proposing to follow the Council of States. Among other things, this means that the Federal Office of Culture (FOC) is to receive an additional CHF 2 million for third-party networks.

The National Council is expected to discuss the bill in the fall session. It is intended to release around one billion francs in federal funds for the cultural sector.
