The National Cultural Dialogue has adopted recommendations on appropriate compensation for cultural professionals as well as proposals for practical implementation. Three main lines of action were defined, as announced by the Federal Office of Culture on Tuesday.

On the one hand, the main lines of action envisage the application of existing tariffs, as can be seen from the letter of recommendation from the National Cultural Dialogue. On the other hand, the existing tariffs are to be publicized and the missing tariffs are to be developed. In addition, the flow of information and awareness-raising should be improved.

The funding bodies are recommended, for example, to "take the existing guideline tariffs into account when assessing funding applications and apply them to all phases of cultural creation", as stated in the press release. Further recommendations for implementation include the professional associations providing information on appropriate compensation.

Coherent practice

According to the press release, the recommendations were prompted by the aim of developing "a coherent practice for the compensation of artists". Among other things, because the cultural sector is "subject to a high degree of precarization". The recommendations were developed by a working group on behalf of the National Cultural Dialogue on the basis of an expert study.

The National Cultural Dialogue was launched in 2011. It involves the cultural representatives of the Confederation, the cantons, cities and municipalities as well as political bodies. These include the head of the FDHA, representatives of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education, the Swiss Association of Cities and the Swiss Association of Communes.
