The Chairman of the Military Committee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) pays a two-day official visit to the Swiss Armed Forces. Admiral Rob Bauer meets Chief of the Armed Forces Thomas Süssli and Federal Councillor Viola Amherd.

The visit on Monday and Tuesday is intended to strengthen cooperation. The Federal Council announced in a press release on Monday that talks were to be held with Viola Amherd, head of the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), on the development of the security situation and the possibilities of intensifying cooperation in the area of security policy.

At the meeting between the NATO admiral and Corps Commander Thomas Süssli, the situation in Ukraine and the consequences of the war for Europe and NATO will be discussed. They will also discuss the implementation of the objectives of cooperation between Switzerland and NATO that directly affect the Swiss Armed Forces.

This cooperation takes place within the framework of the Partnership for Peace, the Federal Council announced. It contributes to the implementation of the Federal Council's intention to strengthen international cooperation in the area of security policy. In September 2022, the Federal Council declared that it wanted to work more closely with NATO and its member states in particular within the framework of neutrality law.
