Nestlé is expanding into India with the Nespresso brand. The company wants to grow in the premium coffee category in the country with the second largest population in the world, as it announced on Thursday. The demand for portioned coffee in India is growing steadily.
Nestlé plans to offer its Nespresso capsules and machines online, according to the press release. The Swiss company is also opening its first Nespresso store in the capital Delhi and plans to expand to other important cities in India at a later date.
"With its growing young population that is engaged with global trends and open to new experiences, India is one of the fastest growing coffee markets for Nestlé," Suresh Narayanan, Head of Nestlé India, is quoted as saying in the press release. In recent years, coffee consumption in India has "skyrocketed". A clear trend towards home consumption can be observed.
Both private customers and companies should be able to purchase Nespresso coffees and systems by the end of the year.
