New Candidate Record for Solothurn National Council Election

In the canton of Solothurn, a record number of 170 candidates are running for the six seats in the National Council in the October elections. The proportion of women is 39.4%. Six candidates are vying for the two seats in the Council of States. 69 women and 101 men are running for the National Council, according to the State Chancellery of Solothurn. Four years ago, 166 people participated, with a female proportion of 37.3%. Long-time parliamentarians Kurt Fluri (FDP) and Walter Wobmann (SVP) are not running for re-election. Christian Imark (SVP), Stefan Müller-Altermatt (Mitte), Franziska Roth (SP) and Felix Wettstein (Green) are running for re-election. In addition to these parties, GLP, EVP and, for the first time, the Mass-Voll grouping are also participating. For the two seats in the small chamber, one woman and five men are running. Councilor Pirmin Bischof (Mitte) is running for re-election. For the seat of Councilor Roberto Zanetti (SP), National Council members Imark, Roth and Wettstein are running. GLP is also sending Dieter Künzli into the race. The FDP is also at stake, as they want to regain the Council of States seat they lost in 2011 after 163 years.
