Nikola Doll has been appointed by the Federal Office of Culture (BAK) as Head of the Looted Art and Provenance Research Division. She will take up her post on April 1 of this year.

The new Looted Art and Provenance Research department will take over the tasks of the BAK's previous Looted Art Contact Point, as the Federal Office announced on Friday. The contact point will be expanded to become a more comprehensive competence center for historically contaminated cultural heritage. Doll will also manage the secretariat of the independent Commission for Historically Burdened Cultural Heritage. She will also be responsible for the operation of an internet platform for provenance research in Switzerland.

Doll, born in 1970, is head of the provenance research department at the Kunstmuseum Bern and was responsible for researching the museum collections and the Cornelius Gurlitt legacy, according to a statement. Doll is a lecturer at the Universities of Bern and Geneva and has published on art, culture and science policy during National Socialism and the post-war period.

Doll has also worked as a research assistant and curator at the German Historical Museum Berlin, the Humboldt University Berlin and the Musée des Beaux-Arts Mons, Belgium.
