Utopian films in Switzerland reflect social changes, with the West of the country leading the way in documentary and feature films. According to film scholar Jan Sahli, Swiss feature films have addressed utopian themes when new social ideas have clashed with established norms. Examples of this include the 1960s, when the conservative spirit of the country was challenged, and the 1980s, when films became more political and topical. The West of Switzerland, particularly Alain Tanner, was the epicentre of this movement. Documentary films such as "Züri brännt" (1981) showed the changing attitudes towards the country's relationship with the mountains and the people who lived there. Utopian films in Switzerland have thus been used to challenge traditional values and to reflect the changing social landscape.nnnnnnnnnn
