The 40-member Suva Council opened the new 2024-2027 term of office on Tuesday with its first meeting at the headquarters in Lucerne. Ticino lawyer Gabriele Gendotti was re-elected as Chairman and Daniel Lampart as Vice-Chairman on the employee side.

Lampart is Head of Secretariat and Chief Economist at the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions, as reported by accident insurer Suva on Wednesday. Roland Müller, Director of the Swiss Employers' Association, was elected Vice-President of the employers' side. He takes over the mandate from Kurt Gfeller, Vice Director of the Swiss Trade Association.

The Federal Council elected the remaining Council members at the end of November 2023. 29 members stood for re-election, 11 were newly elected. These included eight women and three men. According to the press release, the proportion of women is 42.5 percent.

German-speaking Switzerland is represented with 24 seats, French-speaking Switzerland with 10 seats and the Italian-speaking region with 6 seats. This means that the federal government's requirements for the representation of linguistic communities and genders are "fully" met.

The purpose of the Suva Council as the highest governing body of accident insurance is to define the strategic objectives and the means to achieve them. The Council comprises 16 representatives of employers and employees as well as eight representatives of the federal government.
