Nuclear supervisory authority approves restart of Leibstadt nuclear power plant

The Leibstadt nuclear power plant in the canton of Aargau can go back online after the end of its annual overhaul. The nuclear supervisory authority Ensi gave the go-ahead to restart the plant on Thursday. The overhaul took around four weeks.
The permit was granted following a final inspection, the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (Ensi) wrote on its website. In addition to the refueling, maintenance, renewal and testing work on components and systems had been carried out in recent weeks.
According to the Ensi, this included replacing parts of the safety control technology. The operator, Kernkraftwerk Leibstadt AG, carried out the overhaul in accordance with regulations and complied with radiation protection regulations, it said.
There were no indications that would call into question the legally compliant operation of the plant. The Leibstadt nuclear power plant on the Rhine on the border with Germany went into operation in 1984.
