Off-piste skier dies in avalanche above Andermatt

An off-piste skier died in an avalanche accident in Andermatt UR on Sunday. The freerider was skiing on the Geissberg in the Gemsstock area when an avalanche broke loose off the official pistes.

The avalanche swept away the skier, a 53-year-old Swede, according to the Uri cantonal police on Tuesday. The missing man was located by search teams in the Hohbiel area. He could only be rescued lifeless by Rega, according to the statement.
