The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has opened two proceedings following fires in Geneva last summer. One occurred at the Algerian Mission to the United Nations and the other at the French Consulate General.

Proceedings have been initiated against persons unknown, including for intentional arson, as the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland confirmed to the Keystone-SDA news agency in a report by the French-speaking Swiss television station RTS on Friday. The fire at the Algerian mission broke out on the night of August 13. "20 Minuten" reported at the time that the fire broke out in the kitchen and that there were no injuries.

The second fire occurred on August 15 at the French Consulate General. According to the French consul Clément Leclerc, quoted by RTS, the fire, which broke out in the middle of the night, only caused superficial damage.

Following the fires, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland stated that it had been informed by the Geneva authorities about acts of vandalism against the French Consulate General. It will also reopen this case. "Investigations are ongoing, including checks on the possible connection between the cases," it added.
