One of the two access roads to the Muggio Valley in southern Ticino was reopened on Monday morning. The second road between the villages of Monte and Casima has been closed since Sunday and remains closed due to a landslide caused by heavy rainfall.

This was announced by the Ticino cantonal police on Monday morning at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. It was initially unclear how long the second access route would remain closed.

On Monday night, heavy rainfall once again fell in southern Ticino. In Mendrisiotto, the Federal Office of Climatology and Meteorology (MeteoSwiss) recorded over 200 liters of rain per square meter within 24 hours, as reported on the X platform on Monday night.
