Several hundred people gathered in Bern on Saturday for a rally against the WHO pandemic agreement. The demonstration on the Bundesplatz was called by the Mass-Voll movement.
The co-organizers included the Friends of the Constitution and the Freedom Fighters. All three organizations had become known in the fight against the corona measures. They fear that the planned WHO pandemic agreement would restrict Switzerland's sovereignty.
The agreement is due to be adopted in Geneva at the end of May. The member states of the World Health Organization are striving for uniform rules in the areas of prevention, preparedness and response in order to prevent future chaos like that seen at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
"We are demonstrating for a sovereign Switzerland and against international agreements that abolish our fundamental rights," said a Mass-Voll appeal. These included the International Health Regulations (IHR) and framework agreements with the EU.
Signatures for the sovereignty initiative were collected at the demonstration in front of the Federal Palace, as reported by a correspondent for the Keystone-SDA news agency. The initiative, launched in 2023, demands that no international agreement may violate the rights guaranteed by the Federal Constitution.
Members of the far-right Hungarian party Mi Hazank (Our Homeland) and the pro-Russian, nationalist Wasraschdane (Rebirth) party from Bulgaria were announced as "guests of honor" at the demonstration.
