The French-speaking Swiss television station RTS suffered a breakdown on Wednesday evening. The station's two channels went off air. The interruption was beyond the control of RTS, according to a spokesperson.

The glitch occurred from 10.12 p.m., said RTS spokesman Marco Ferrara on Wednesday evening at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

Private broadcasters in French-speaking Switzerland, including Léman Bleu and the Carac stations, were also affected by the glitch. The Swiss-German broadcaster SRF and the Italian-speaking Swiss broadcaster RSI were not affected, according to Ferrara.

Problem with signal transmission

According to the spokesperson, the reason for the outage was a problem with the signal transmission between Geneva and Zurich. The cause of the problem was not known at the time of communication.

It was also unclear how long the repair work would take. A team of telecommunications specialists is working in Zurich to rectify the disruption.
