After the Federal Council elections on Wednesday, the party leaders questioned the system of Federal Council tickets. In future, it will be even more difficult to determine a ticket and guarantee that the Federal Assembly will stick to it, said Center Party President Gerhard Pfister.
For example, it could be that tickets will only be recommendations from the parties in future, said Pfister on Wednesday after the elections in an interview with party presidents on Swiss television SRF.
Previously, Daniel Jositsch, who was not on the SP ticket, had received more votes than the officially nominated candidate Jon Pult in the election for the successor to SP Federal Councillor Alain Berset.
Mattea Meyer, Co-President of the SP, accused the conservatives of not sticking to the ticket. SVP President Marco Chiesa affirmed: "We made a decision and elected someone from the ticket." He assumed that the members of the Council of States had voted for Jositsch.
FDP President Thierry Burkart also said that practically all of the FDP's votes had gone to the ticket. In his view, the United Federal Assembly has spoken out in favor of continuity and stability. "I believe that the system has proven itself," he said on SRF. Of course, if certain election trends were to recur, the composition of the Federal Council would have to be discussed. But today it is clear that the Federal Assembly has spoken out in favor of the magic formula.
The Green candidacy was also discussed. There had never been a situation like this before, said party president Balthasar Glättli. The Greens were almost alone in supporting their candidate. Only half of the GLP also wanted to vote for Gerhard Andrey. If you still get 60 votes, that's a good result. "But for me it is a missed opportunity for the country," said Glättli. But now we have to let the new government work.
"We have reached a point where many things need to be questioned in the Federal Council," said GLP President Jürg Grossen. At the moment, there is a concentration of power. "We should now bring movement into the system and also bring in new parties," concluded the GLP President.
