After a good investment year in 2023, pension funds in Switzerland have also recorded a positive result so far this year. According to a study by the consulting firm Complementa, pension institutions achieved an average return of 6.1% in the first eight months.
In the past full year 2023, the return was slightly lower at 5.2%. "The equity markets in particular were able to seamlessly build on the previous year-end rally," explained Thomas Breitenmoser, member of the Complementa Executive Board.
The good investment result also had an impact on the pension funds' coverage ratio. This rose on average to 112.6% at the end of August 2024 from 107.6% at the end of 2023.
