Philosopher and presenter Annemarie Pieper dies at the age of 83

The German philosopher Annemarie Pieper has died at the age of 83. Pieper was a professor at the University of Basel and hosted the SRF program "Sternstunde Philosophie", among others.
Pieper was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Karl Jaspers Foundation in Basel for 40 years, according to an obituary published in the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" on Wednesday. The philosopher passed away on February 15.
Pieper was born in 1941 in the German city of Düsseldorf. In 1981, she was one of the first women to be appointed to the chair of the Swiss-German philosopher and psychiatrist Karl Jaspers at the University of Basel. This was revealed in an interview with CH Media published in 2020. She took early retirement at the age of 60. "35 years of teaching at university is enough," she said.
The philosopher focused primarily on the fields of ethics, feminist philosophy and existential philosophy. Her introduction to ethics is one of the standard works in the field.
