The cantonal police have arrested a man following the explosion in Nussbaumen AG. According to his own statements, he is one of the tenants of the hobby room filled with fireworks.
The 33-year-old Portuguese man was an acquaintance of the two men killed in the explosion, according to the Aargau public prosecutor's office on Thursday. He had reported to the emergency services at the scene of the accident and said that he was one of the tenants of the hobby room.
In order to question him and to prevent the possible destruction of evidence, the man was temporarily arrested. No pre-trial detention was ordered, the public prosecutor's office announced on Thursday in response to an inquiry from the Keystone-SDA news agency.
As part of the investigation, the Baden public prosecutor's office is now clarifying whether the man was also involved in illegal fireworks and whether he was involved in the danger posed by the explosive substances.
There are no indications of an explosives offense, a terrorist background or a deliberate act, writes the public prosecutor's office. So far, everything points to an accident caused by incorrect handling and storage as well as "unintentional misconduct with the dangerous substances".
The two victims, a 43-year-old Italian and a 24-year-old Swiss, had been in the hobby room at the time of the accident, according to the investigators' findings. Eleven people suffered injuries.
