Police have first clues about the cause of the fire in Uster ZH

The exact cause of the fire that claimed two lives in a residential home in Uster ZH remained unclear on Thursday. However, the police have ruled out a technical defect.
According to initial findings, the fire was probably caused by "human influences", said a spokesperson for the Zurich cantonal police when asked by Keystone-SDA on Thursday afternoon.
A 31-year-old female resident and a 34-year-old male resident died in a fire at a residential home for people with disabilities in Uster ZH on Wednesday evening.
The fire was reported shortly after 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Emergency services were able to quickly extinguish the flames in a residential group of the home. Three residents, one female resident and one caregiver were taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.
The residential home is a facility for cognitively impaired people. The affected residential group is currently uninhabitable. According to initial estimates, the damage to property amounts to several hundred thousand francs.
