An alleged threat at a school in Bern kept the Bern cantonal police on their toes for several hours on Tuesday. By mid-afternoon, the threat could not be confirmed and the operation was gradually brought to an end. No one was injured.
The report of an alleged threat was received by the Bern cantonal police late Tuesday morning, as they reported in the afternoon. The school in Munzingerstrasse in the Mattenhof district of Bern was affected. Because a danger could not be ruled out, various emergency services were called out, the police explained.
Police officers in full uniform were deployed, as can be seen on video footage from the Keystone-SDA news agency. The police were on site with several vehicles, including a mobile operations center. According to the images, several streets in the immediate vicinity of the school building were closed off with barrier tape.
Children were able to leave the school building
As a first step, the schoolchildren were kept in the school's classrooms. Later in the afternoon, all the children were able to leave the classrooms one class at a time, the police added. The teachers and school management were looking after the children and the police care team had not been called out, a spokeswoman for the Bern cantonal police said on request.
The police have started an investigation into the incident.
