Polluted water in Lakes Murten and Neuchâtel

Both Lake Murten and Lake Neuchâtel were polluted by hydrocarbons and diesel in the ports of Murten and Portalban FR on Saturday evening. Both water pollution incidents were neutralized by the fire department and police.
Despite the damage to the ecosystem in both areas, no dead fish had been sighted by Sunday afternoon, according to the Fribourg cantonal police.
The spill in the port of Portalbahn on Lake Neuchâtel was reported at around 6 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Fribourg cantonal police on Sunday. An undetermined amount of hydrocarbons had leaked near a boat mooring.
A little later in the evening at around 8.20 p.m., the police received a report of further water pollution in the port of Murten in Lake Murten. There was a strong smell of diesel and a thin layer of the substance floating on the water near the boat ramp.
According to initial findings, the two spills could have been caused by boats, the police added. The lake police have launched an investigation to clarify the exact causes of these incidents and identify those responsible.
