The Swiss Association for Mountain Regions finds the further reduction of the post office network unacceptable. It has already been thinned out too much in the past and needs to be stabilized with 800 self-operated post offices, the association announced on Wednesday.
In mountainous and rural areas, the network of company-operated post offices is already too thin. According to the Swiss Association for Mountain Regions (SAB), alternative services such as branches with partners or home delivery services do not offer the same range of services as company-operated branches.
The SAB supports Swiss Post's efforts to increase cooperation in the post office network. Basic supply facilities such as village stores and bistros allow the bundling of various basic supply services. It went on to say that self-operated post offices are also very important for payment transactions and the supply of cash to the population, as more and more bank branches in rural areas are being closed.
