The police have caught the perpetrator of the armed robbery at the station post office in Yverdon-les-Bains VD. Most of the loot was recovered.

The perpetrator is a 69-year-old Romanian of no fixed abode, as the Vaud cantonal police announced on Wednesday. The man was arrested on Tuesday in a hotel in the north of Vaud by a task force consisting of officers from the cantonal police and the Lausanne municipal police. He has confessed to the crime.

In addition to the majority of the loot, the weapon used was also found, according to the police. It is a replica of a firearm, a so-called airsoft gun.

At around 10.00 a.m. last Saturday, the perpetrator threatened a counter employee with a weapon and demanded in broken English that she empty her till. The woman complied and gave him mainly rolls of coins and some banknotes worth between 10 and 100 francs, which he took away in two plastic bags. The amount taken was not disclosed. No one was injured during the robbery.
