Preliminary Results Point to a Big Election Victory for the SVP

The Swiss People's Party (SVP) is set to make a strong comeback in the 2019 Swiss federal elections, according to initial results, interim results and projections. The party is expected to gain a significant number of votes and seats, while the Greens are expected to lose more than expected. In Zurich, the SVP is projected to increase its voter share by 3.3 percentage points to 30%, while the Greens are projected to lose 5.2 percentage points to 8.8%. In St. Gallen, the SVP is projected to gain a seat from the GLP. In Aargau, the SVP is projected to regain the seventh seat it lost four years ago. In Graubünden, the SVP is projected to gain a seat from the SP, reversing the result from 2019. In Lucerne, the SVP is projected to gain a seat from the GLP. In Geneva, the protest party MCG is projected to gain two seats, while the SP is projected to gain a third seat. The Greens, GLP and Left Alliance are expected to lose seats. In Thurgau, the FDP is projected to gain a seat from the Greens. In Solothurn, the Greens are projected to lose their only seat. In Basel-Stadt, the SP is projected to lose one of its two seats. In Glarus, the SVP is projected to gain a seat from the Mitte party. In Uri, the Mitte party is projected to retain its seat. In Nidwalden, the SVP is projected to lose a seat, with the Mitte party taking its place. The SVP is projected to retain its seats in Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Obwalden, while the Mitte party is projected to retain its seat in Innerrhoden.
