The 81st Olma opened on Thursday with a ceremony in the Theater St. Gallen. President Viola Amherd spoke at the event about the challenges facing agriculture.
Climate change is progressing at a rapid pace and is changing the production conditions of agriculture, said President Viola Amherd (center) on Thursday during her speech at the Theater St. Gallen. "Today, too, agriculture must once again prove its adaptability and resilience," said Amherd about agriculture. Farmers must also meet a wide range of demands from politicians and the population.
At the end of her speech, Amherd said that she was looking forward to the piglet "Leonie" and hoped that it was not afraid of the visit from Bern. It is a tradition for a member of the national government to hold a "piglet" in their arms during a tour of the fair on the opening day.
The Olma lasts until October 20.
