At the media conference on the storms in Ticino, the President of the Ticino cantonal government promised an early timetable for the restoration of traffic routes in the upper Maggia Valley. The Alpine region has been put to the test over the past week.

Christian Vitta (FDP), President of the Ticino cantonal government, noted that it was important for the entire Alpine arc to feel the closeness of the Swiss population these days.

With the second weekend of severe weather in a row in a mountain region, the events were taking on a "national dimension", Vitta continued. For this reason, it was important for the Federal Council to be on site.

The Ticino electricity company Società Elettrica Sopracenerina (SES) is working at full speed to bring electricity back to the affected region in the Maggia Valley, Vitta continued.

Norman Gobbi, head of the Ticino Department of Justice and Police, added that the fact that people are cut off from communication at a time when people are used to everything always working immediately is particularly drastic.

In addition to the upper Maggia Valley, the towns of Stalvedro and Piottino in the Leventina were also hit by the storms. The power stations there would no longer function properly.
