The Americans have made a high-risk bet with the election of Donald Trump. This is how the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" commented on the election results from the USA.
Of course, the so-called "checks and balances", i.e. the reciprocal control of constitutional bodies in accordance with the US constitution, also apply to Trump. But he is unpredictable. The possibility remains that the new US president will fiddle around and "cause unseen chaos in Washington and on the world stage."
As a wealthy entrepreneur, Trump has benefited from a high level of credibility in business circles. He was also able to mobilize a group of voters who "otherwise rarely come out from behind the computer: young men of all colours." Trump also benefited from the strong migration under Joe Biden and the increased cost of living.
