Prix Serdang goes to pianist Alexandra Dovgan

On Sunday, 17-year-old pianist Alexandra Dovgan was awarded the Prix Serdang piano prize for 2024. The prize is endowed with 50,000 francs.

"Her exceptional talent and reputation as a child prodigy have already taken her to the stages of major concert halls around the world," said Adrian Flury, initiator of the prize, according to the press release on Sunday. The prize was presented to Dovgan at the Villa Serdang in Feldbrunnen near Solothurn.

Dovgan, who was born in 2007, has developed into an outstanding pianist of her generation and "continues to inspire her audience with her technical brilliance, musical sensitivity and expressiveness", it said. She began her piano studies at the age of four and a half and passed the selective entrance examination of the Academic Central Music School in Moscow at the age of five, the statement continued.

The young prizewinner has won numerous international competitions. At the age of ten, she was awarded the Grand Prix at the II International Grand Piano Competition in Moscow.

According to the press release, Dovgan has made her debut in many of the world's most important concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonie and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. She has performed under renowned conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel and Paavo Järvi. In the current season, she is performing at the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Tonhalle Zurich, among others.

The Prix Serdang was established in 2022 and is endowed with 50,000 francs. The internationally renowned pianist Rudolf Buchbinder was engaged as curator for the selection.
