SBB would have to make the remaining train paths in the Gotthard Base Tunnel available to the very busy trains to and from Italy, if possible. This is what the interest group of public transport customers "Pro Bahn" demands in a reaction to the latest information from SBB on the tunnel.
Board member Guido Schoch said on Thursday in response to a question that in this respect Pro Bahn welcomes the statement of the SBB top management on the planned use of the train paths. SBB wrote in a statement on Thursday that it wanted to accommodate the various needs of construction work, passenger and freight traffic at the Gotthard as far as possible.
The plan is to increase capacity for freight traffic during the week and for passenger traffic at weekends from the timetable change on December 10. According to a new concept, which has yet to be approved, significantly more and faster passenger trains would travel through the base tunnel over the weekend than today.
According to Schoch, because of the problems at the Gotthard, Pro Bahn is continuing to demand an extension of the period of validity of the General Abonnement (GA) and the route season tickets for people who work and live in Ticino or south of the Gotthard. Pro Bahn already made the corresponding demand in August.
A letter to the umbrella organization of Swiss transport companies and tariff associations Alliance Swiss Pass with this content received an unsatisfactory response, said Schoch. Pro Bahn had followed up by letter.
