Proceedings dropped after death of diplomat in Iran

In the case of the Swiss diplomat who died in Iran in 2021, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has discontinued proceedings on suspicion of homicide. It assumes that the death was most likely a suicide.
This was revealed in the discontinuation order reported by the Tamedia titles on Friday. The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland confirmed the facts of the case at the request of Keystone-SDA.
The then 51-year-old diplomat worked for the Swiss embassy in Iran. In 2021, she was found dead outside her apartment building in Tehran - she had fallen from the 17th floor. The investigation was hampered by missing organs after the first autopsy in Iran.
When experts from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Bern carried out a second examination in Switzerland, the brain, heart, a kidney and parts of the spine were missing. The expert reports were unable to determine the exact cause of death, but showed no evidence of violence. The most likely cause of death was suicide, they said.
