The Federal Council wants to transform the Agency for Educational Mobility into an institution under public law. This will enable the Movetia agency to better meet the requirements of good corporate governance. Movieta implements Switzerland's national and international promotion of mobility in education.

The new law is expected to come into force in 2025, as announced by the federal government on Wednesday. Promoting mobility and exchange in education is an important task for the federal government and cantons. The Movetia agency was founded for this purpose in 2017. In 2022, it promoted over 35,000 exchanges at all levels of education.

The institution, which is organized under private law, has actually proven itself. However, the Federal Council wants to change its legal form and governance in order to better meet the federal government's requirements for good corporate governance. To this end, Movieta is to become a public-law institution, which requires a federal law.

Movieta will thus become a decentralized administrative unit under the direct supervision of the Federal Council and the overall supervision of Parliament. The close cooperation between the Confederation and the cantons will continue. The Federal Council forwarded the new Movieta Act to Parliament on Wednesday.
