The railroad line over the Oberalp Pass has been interrupted since Monday afternoon. As the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway announced on its website, no trains will be running between Andermatt UR and Dieni GR until the end of the day.
A spokesperson for the railroad company explained the closure to the Keystone-SDA news agency due to the strong winds. In addition, a train had previously got stuck on a switch near Tschamut, which lies between the Oberalp Pass and Dieni, due to the heavy snowfall.
This three-car train had to be made ready to travel again, said the spokesman. The passengers had been evacuated.
In addition, the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway is suspending car transportation through the Furka Tunnel during the afternoon. The road between Realp and Hospental UR, which leads to the car transport, is at risk of avalanches, explained the railroad company's spokesperson.
