Trains on the Visp VS-Andermatt UR-Disentis GR railroad line were only able to run to a limited extent on Tuesday morning. This was due to the risk of avalanches and a train blocking the line.

A three-car train got stuck in a switch in Tschamut on the Graubünden side of the Oberalp Pass on Monday due to all the snow. The Andermatt-Dieni section was also interrupted on Tuesday due to the rescue operation. However, trains were running between Dieni and Disentis, said a spokesperson for the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

Rail traffic on the Andermatt-Visp line was also affected and interrupted at times. This was due to the risk of avalanches in the Urseren Valley and Obergoms, which meant that the roads in both high valleys were also closed.

Car transport through the Furka tunnel between Realp and Oberwald VS has been suspended since Monday. The reason for this is that the road between Realp and Hospental UR is closed due to the risk of avalanches.

According to a compilation by Meteonews, up to two meters of fresh snow had fallen on the main Alpine ridge within 24 hours by Tuesday morning. According to the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF), there is therefore a "high" avalanche danger in large parts of the Alps and therefore the second-highest danger level.
