The Maison du Chocolat Cailler recorded a record number of visitors last year. Almost half a million people visited the chocolate museum in Broc FR, which opened in 2010 and is dedicated to the chocolate of the same name.

A total of 437,640 chocolate enthusiasts wanted to see the Cailler Museum in 2023, an average of 1,200 per day. This represents a 17% increase in the number of visitors compared to the previous year, as announced by Maison Cailler on Thursday. This confirms the museum's position as the most visited tourist attraction in French-speaking Switzerland.

At 53%, the Swiss public made up the majority of visitors. Vaud topped the list of cantons of origin, followed by Fribourg, Geneva, Bern, Valais and Zurich.

At international level, tourists came primarily from France, with a strong increase of 16%. This was followed by people from Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and North America. The number of visitors from Asia also continued to rise.

Current investments

Numerous innovations and celebrations contributed to the record number of visitors last year, Cailler wrote. For example, the renovated Broc-Chocolaterie train station, just a few meters from the museum and factory, was connected to the national rail network. This has made it easier for visitors to travel by train.

The Chocolat Express was also introduced to encourage travelers to come to Broc by public transport. The train is decorated entirely in the colors of the Cailler brand. The 100th anniversary of Frigor chocolate and the 125th anniversary of the factory in Broc were also celebrated in the reporting year.

Maison Cailler is the oldest chocolate brand still active in Switzerland. It was founded in 1819 by François-Louis Cailler and is now part of the Nestlé Group. Nestlé is currently investing CHF 9 million in the modernization of the factory.
