The Reformed Church wants to conduct a study on sexual abuse. The Swiss Protestant Reformed Church submitted a corresponding application to the church parliament this week, as President Rita Famos said in an interview on Sunday.

The investigation should show where and how often abuse occurs, said Famos, President of the Swiss Protestant Reformed Church, in an interview with the "NZZ am Sonntag", which was first published online.

The study is not only intended to look behind the church walls. "We hope that the results will also help other institutions to take action against sexual abuse," she said. A separate survey will address those affected in the reformed environment. "We want to know: Where and how did the assaults happen, and what prevented the acts from being uncovered?" said Famos.

The study is expected to cost CHF 1.6 million, according to the interview. The church parliament, the synod, will decide on the proposal in June.
