Operations at the refugee hostel in Mayens-de-Chamoson in the canton of Valais have been suspended until further notice. The reason for this is a sinking floor. The residents of the home have been relocated.
This precautionary measure was decided after the building's statics were analyzed, the canton of Valais announced on Monday. Further technical investigations still need to be carried out before a decision can be made on the future of this accommodation.
Around 50 people from this home have been temporarily relocated to other accommodation. The cantonal asylum office is looking for new accommodation options.
The restaurant "Le Temps de Vivre", which is attached to the home, will also have to cease operations for an indefinite period. The restaurant, which is run by the canton, employs social welfare recipients and participants in integration programs who are resident in Valais or have a migration background. They are supervised and trained by specialists.
