The city of Lucerne will start the rock stabilization measures at Schlössli Schönegg in the Gütsch area next Monday. They are expected to last until January 2025, as the city of Lucerne announced on Thursday.
So far, the unstable rock body has not moved, said Marco Baumann, the city of Lucerne's environmental director, to the media. The situation is stable. Nevertheless, parts of the rock could break off at any time. A second geological report commissioned confirmed that the risk situation is high.
In mid-September, the town announced that a 13,000-tonne boulder was threatening to fall from Gütschhügel. Part of the Schlössli Schönegg, the Gütschweg, the SBB portal of the Gütsch tunnel and four residential buildings would be affected by a rockfall.
As an immediate measure, the city had steel palisades flown in by helicopter. These are intended to reduce the danger and mitigate the potential for damage in the event of an incident.
