If elected to the Federal Council, Roger Nordmann will act as a bridge builder. He emphasized that he is not afraid of tackling difficult questions. His candidacy is not that of a Romand, but a cross-cutting and Swiss one. Switzerland is facing complex issues, said Nordmann in a press conference in Bern on Wednesday. These include an aging population and the resulting shortage of labor, which can be addressed through education. Energy and climate require large investments. The burden of health care rests on premiums. With increasing needs, there is also a lack of personnel here. Relations with Europe must finally find a solution. The public discourse on the EU must become more positive. His motivation for the Federal Council candidacy is to build bridges and find solutions. For this, he values the analysis of others. He does not refuse any dialogue. He wants to proceed step by step and in the long term. "My instrument is not the magic wand, but the pilgrim's staff," said Nordmann. Given the dramatic shift in times, there is no need for a Federal Council with regional interests. It is thus perfectly possible to have a third Western Swiss representative in the government.
