The Schaffhausen Cantonal Council is debating the 2024 budget on Monday. While the Government Council is proposing an unchanged tax rate, the majority of the Audit Committee (GPK) wants to reduce it by four percentage points.
The Government Council is too defensive on tax rate issues in view of the current budget, the GPK justifies its proposal. According to the commission, this is a compromise - in its seven meetings, tax rate reductions of up to eight percentage points were still under discussion.
The Government Council's budget envisages a surplus of CHF 28.3 million on expenditure of CHF 954 million. This surplus would be reduced to around 22.5 million francs with the proposals of the GPK, which, in addition to the tax base reduction (minus 10.4 million francs), also proposes various additional and reduced expenditures.
The Schaffhausen Cantonal Council plans to discuss and approve the budget at two or three meetings by early Monday evening.
