A new indoor swimming pool can be built in the city of Schaffhausen. The voters of the city and canton have approved the respective credit proposals. At cantonal level, the rules for special financial pots were also tightened and immediate measures for the minimum taxation of companies were approved.

The cantonal contribution of CHF 12 million to the construction of the new KSS indoor swimming pool was approved by 77.5 percent, or 25,431 votes in favor to 7,391 against, as announced by the State Chancellery on Sunday. The turnout was 67.2 percent.

Voters also approved a revision of the Financial Budget Act by 51.8%. There were 14,804 yes votes and 13,787 no votes. Since 2017, the canton and the municipalities have been able to create reserves to balance out temporary fluctuations in the annual accounts or to finance major projects. The possibilities for creating such reserves are now restricted by the revision.

Schaffhausen voters also approved an amendment to the tax law. The proportion of votes in favor was 77.6 percent. There were 22,162 yes votes against 6,385 no votes.

The amendment to the law includes immediate measures with regard to the internationally agreed minimum taxation of 15 percent of the profits of large corporate groups. Specifically, this involves a slight increase in profit tax for high-earning companies. This means that the minimum taxation of 15 percent will be achieved for these companies.
