Following a fatal accident, the police closed the Seelisbertunnel on the northbound A2 highway on Saturday morning. The tunnel heading south and Gotthard was only open to one lane after a temporary total closure. There were tailbacks in Nidwalden and Uri.

Northbound, vacation return traffic was jammed between Erstfeld and the Altdorf junction. To the south, a column formed between Beckenried NW and the north portal of the Seelisberg tunnel.

The police set up a detour in this direction and to the Gotthard tunnel from the Rotsee LU junction via the A14 and A4 highways in the direction of Zurich.

Meanwhile, vacation traffic in the direction of Ticino was backed up for eleven kilometers in front of the Gotthard tunnel, as reported by the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) on the short message service X. Northbound traffic was backed up for six kilometers between Quinto and Airolo.
