SGB head Maillard: “Social pact works in Switzerland”

The people are the power in the state: with these words, SGB President and member of the Council of States Pierre-Yves Maillard (SP/VD) commented on Sunday on the Yes vote for the initiative for a 13th AHV pension. "The social pact in Switzerland is working", he said on RTS television in French-speaking Switzerland.
The Yes vote is wonderful news for all those who have worked all their lives, explained the President of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB) after the SRG projection was available on voting Sunday. The electorate had expressed their confidence in the first pillar of the pension system.
The yes vote on the initiative for a 13th AHV pension is likely to be the first time in history that a trade union initiative and an initiative on the AHV have met with approval in a ballot. There are signs of a high turnout.
