The President of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB), Pierre-Yves Maillard, sees no close solution in the negotiations on a framework agreement with the EU. Although there have been some improvements, things have got worse in terms of wage protection.
Maillard spoke of a "liberalization project" on Radio SRF's "Samstagsrundschau". There was liberalization in the labour market, the electricity market and the railroads. He also put the discussions about a safeguard clause into perspective: the best protection is good wage protection and controls on the labor market.
A solution must be in everyone's interest, as has been the case in recent decades. Maillard said that there would probably be a conclusion in the negotiations with the EU. The Federal Council would send the deal to Parliament. "Then we'll see," continued the SP member of the Council of States. "If it stays as it is, we will oppose it," he said.
Maillard also pledged his support for the centrist initiative for higher AHV pensions for married couples. He also pleaded for real wage increases and higher child allowances. The population does not understand that they work the same amount as three years ago, but receive less in return.
