Women have benefited disproportionately from the many CFO changes. However, there is still a long way to go to achieve parity.
Shortly before the end of 2024, the proportion of women at the top of the finance departments of listed companies was 13%, according to an analysis by the news agency AWP. In other words: out of almost 190 companies with a CFO position, 25 currently have a female CFO. The proportion has therefore doubled.
This means that the proportion of female CFOs has also come much closer to the average proportion of women on the management boards of listed companies. Women currently occupy 17 percent of all management positions. They are found more frequently than average in the areas of communications and human resources.
New appointments this year include Claudia Cordioli (Zurich Insurance), Anna Manz (Nestlé), Marta Vlatchkova (SGS) and Beatrice Kern (Berner Kantonalbank). The promotion of SGS CFO Géraldine Picaud to head of the auditing group after just a few months is also noteworthy.
In contrast, female CEOs are still a rarity in Switzerland. Although the number of female CEOs at listed companies has risen to 8 out of 5, the best known are Magdalena Martullo-Blocher (Ems-Chemie), Suzanne Thoma (Sulzer), Hanneke Faber (Logitech) and Ricarda Demarmels (Emmi).
